Heritage Lottery Fund
The Cheesy Waffles Project has completed a 'Mining Life' Project funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
Over 15 months it has seen 64 children, young people and adults engage in fun and creative learning activities to enhance the skills and knowledge of the mining industry and Heritage of County Durham and other areas of England.
The project has enabled members to visit new places including Birmingham Black Country Museum, National Coal Mining Museum Wakefield, Woodhorn Colliery, Elscar Heritage Centre and local sites of Wharton Park, Redhill and Beamish Museum.
We have worked with local people to learn about The Miners Strike, Pit Dialect, Traditional Foods and Stories and Songs. Mining Artefacts were loaned from South Yorkshire based group 'Mining memorabilia to lend' which enabled hands-on learning.
The Making Music Project performed to 2 audiences showcasing song and poem on Heritage and Coal Mining and received fantastic feedback.
The Mining Life Project has had an extremely positive impact on participants during the recovery period after covid giving a focus on learning new skills and building self confidence.
